Day 57: Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008 Assessment
Yesterday was a pretty good day! I woke up weighing 122.5 - .5 pounds less than the day before – yay! It’s been cold here but I’ve been all about boots/dresses so I went to work feeling great, just a little sore from kickboxing! (not as much as the time before). I got a surprise when I got there – my awesome co-worker Stace wanted to work out with me! Brought her clothes to do cardio with me at lunch and everything! The morning went good – then me and her went down and walked 3 miles together. Wow – it flew by chatting with her! She just bought a house so, while in retrospect I should have been picking her brain about the process, we had fun talking decorating!! We have similar styles! She even made an inspiration board for her den so it was fun to share. For breakfast I had the usual, egg/Morningstar sausage muffin, and then I had my yummy pita/hummus snack! For lunch I had a smart ones (chicken parm – fave), then I had a granola bar and a couple of jolly ranchers in the afternoon. I thought about going to the gym after work… but decided to do abs/chest/tris at home… that didn’t happen… Instead I went to the grocery store and then me and Austin cooked fish, brown rice and mushrooms – YUM – and watched True Blood and Entourage from Sunday – SO GOOD – both!!! I got in bed and started tracking my food and realized that I was under calories by a little over 100. I don’t like to be under, so I had a treat! Austin got us each a kashi cookie and one cup of skim milk – SO GOOD! Here's the details: What I Ate Today. I was good on calories, fat and carbs!
Sorry this post is a little sterile… and pretty non-pictureish. I had a very, very rough day today…. so it’s hard to even look back at what a great, positive day I had yesterday. I will say I tried to try something new – spaghetti squash! I was so excited, but unforuntaely I did it incorrectly and it tasted crunchy so we couldn’t eat it – SAD. I’m going to try again though! Stacy gave me another way to do it (baking) so I’m trying this weekend. She tried the buffalo chicken sandwich and her and her boyfriend loved it! She even brought leftovers to work today and made another sandwich. :)
K- I’m out – I’ve got to let this day go away… Hope you all had better Wednesdays than me.

Day 56: Monday, Oct. 27, 2008 Assessment
Not good…. I felt like I spun my wheels, got nothing done, and then I felt like crap. For lunch, instead of doing my 3 miles as planned, I went to Sweet Tomatoes for a salad/baked potato. But I also had some mac & cheese…. And soft serve….. then back at work I had a reese’s cup… and a few milk duds. Sabotage! :( I was able to drive over to Knuckle Up and do kickboxing with my workout partner, Mon, again! I enjoyed it – very intense, much easier than the first time and I felt good about it. Still sad that I can’t lunge or do mountain climbers or planks with my foot. :( Makes me feel like I’m not getting the most out of the glass. Boo.
Then I drove home and sweet Austin had made the yummy sweet and sour chicken from a couple of weeks ago – YUM! Then he ran to poker and I curled up in bed to watch Bros & Sisters, Gossip Girls and One Tree Hill. Just what I needed. Here’s my assessment for today! I had 1,626 calories, 255 carbs and 35 fat grams.
So good on fat grams, but high on carbs and calories. Really… calories were only over 76 calories and I have no doubt I burnt that, and then some, kickboxing (mixed with circuits; running around the room, squats, push ups, abs, etc.). So while I know I had a little too many treats today (hello – reese’s cup, mac&cheese, duds, fro-yo – eek!). Here’s the details: What I Ate. So you may have noticed that each of my photos had a bit missing… my goal is take more photos of what I eat…. But I always forget! Tomorrow I’m going to try to photograph everything! Day 55: Sunday, Oct. 26, Assessment
Sunday was a lovely day! I got up early and eager to cook – I’m just loving it! Before cooking I weighed prepared a bowl of grapes – I was too hungry to wait I immediately chopped up a ton of veggies – mushrooms, red pepper, green pepper, onion, tomato and got to work on egg/egg white omelets!
They were so good! I added a little salt, pepper, Creole seasoning and feta – they were YUM. Me and Austin ate and decided to do nothing today – awesome. So I’ve just been hanging out, catching up on blog reading, downloading pics, playing with Reuben, etc. I watched a movie – Atonement – it was really good…. Wow… have any of you seen it? It was something else… you could just easily see how things could spin out of control like that..jpg)
After breakfast I got ready for lunch – yummy loaded baked potatoes with turkey chili! FANTASIC! The ‘extras’ didn’t even taste fat-free- it tasted like “the real thing.” Awesome! Then I took a nap, watched a few That 70’s Shows, talked to my mom and an old friend from grad school, and tried to get some work done. Didn’t happen. Eek!Well, Reuben ruined his first thing…. When I took my nap he was up on the bed. I thought he was sleeping and/or had a toy up here. Apparently I slept hard… and while I was out he ate my camera cord- no! :( Thankfully he wasn’t hurt…. And my work camera has the same cord so I’ll use it until I get a new one. Dang though! Honestly I felt bad… it was my fault for having it and not a toy up there. Boo.
So me and Austin are SERIOUSLY considering BUYING a house now. Eek! I thought we were renters, I thought we didn’t want to be tied down…. But it’s seeming like it’s the right time and we’re solid in our jobs and our lease is up in May so we’re officially looking. I told Austin to find the house and I’ll find the stuff to put in it (so long as we both have veto power!) He spent all last night online looking at houses, I at furniture and home decor sites. Heaven. For dinner I couldn’t think about cooking again so Austin made me muffin pizzas and himself some pasta/spaghetti sauce. I loved my muffins and had some of his noodles– YUM.Sunday went good – I woke up weighing 122 (up a pound from yesterday) and overall, I had 1,329 calories, 26 fat grams and 209 carbs. Here’s the details: What I Ate.

Day 54: Saturday, Oct. 25, Assessment
Austin went down to clean his car (he bought a new car but still needs to sell his old one – we’re on it!) and I headed over to the gym. I walked for 2 miles, then did biceps, abs and legs, and then walked for another .5 mile. Great workout and I felt awesome – but hungry! I ate a granola bar while I waited for the greek chicken/curried rice to cook. Yes – I ate this again! After lunch I got a lot of work done, then started prepping dinner- butternut squash fries and buffalo chicken sandwiches.
Yes, my “new” recipes are quickly becoming old favorites – so exciting. After dinner we played pool and had some of my favorite people over – 4 other couples including my sister/her husband, E from out of town, my workout partner Mon and her fiancé, and my goal-weight friend Mary who visits the blog! :) Everyone had already met/hung out numerous times so it was a great chill night. We intended to play games – but ended up chatting all night which was even more fun! Good times – and we saved a lot of $ not going to bars- awesome! I also made tentative plans to do kickboxing again with Mon on Monday and dance class (yes – back to dance!) with Mary and my sister on Wednesday (Latin Jazz – love it!). Already looking forward to the non-working part of this week – hehe.
All in all I came out at 1,805 calories, 34 fat grams and 184 carbs. So high on calories – good on everything else. Like usual, 443 alcohol calories put me over my 1,550 mark. I did work out today though so it’s all good! Here’s What I Ate.

Day 52 & Day 53: Thursday, Oct. 23, and Friday, Oct. 24, Assessments
So Thursday went pretty good! I woke up weighing 122.5 again –not bad!I worked at home all day and ate well – missed Reuben though as he was at the vet – poor baby! I did 3 miles during lunch and two after – yay! Then I was off to get my haircut. I go to this cute girl Kelly at Van Michael and she’s AWESOME. She just really gets my hair and uses very little product – makes me happy. When she got done cutting, instead of straightening it (as per usual) she asked if I cared if she curled it – like wavy/beachy cool curls. I was like um, YEAH! Anyway, she curled it and I loved it – here’s a pic of the back before it “calmed down.” So after my haircut we went to a bar and froze our asses off while we watched Auburn get their asses handed to them. SIGH.

Anyway, I had a great exercise day and food day! In total, I had 1,527 calories, 32 fat grams and 223 carbs. Carbs seem high but they’re all in REC so yay!!! Here’s the details: What I Ate. Here's a few food pics!

Friday went good, too! I woke up weighing 122 –yay - .5 loss! Weather was NASTY though – like BLAH – no motivation to do anything creative. I went into the office and it was dead. Like, my director (boss’s, boss’s boss) came over at 9 and was like we’re leaving early today – we’re the only one’s here on our team! Haha Needless to say, I got a lot of work done since it was so quiet. And since my buddies were out on vacation I took in a mall trip during lunch – eek! I finally found the brown flats I was looking for, and a cute funky dress, and 4 tops!! Here’s some pics…
.jpg)
.jpg)

After work (left 30 minutes early!) I went straight to the hotel my friend E is staying at (E is my maid of honor in town from DC to see her brother’s baby twin girls!). We visited and then her parents got in town and Austin came down – fun! I couldn’t stay long though – had to run home, eat dinner, then off to a friend’s birthday get together! It was nice – but the weather was STILL nasty – blah!!! I did take a day off working out Friday. I realized I’d gone Sunday – Thursday and so I figured taking Friday off would be a good idea! I had a good “food day” – 1,514 calories, 34 fat grams and 192 carbs- good deal! Here's the details.
Today is going good so far!! We’re having friends over tonight so I’m super excited. Other than that I’ve been cleaning around the house, ran to the gym (2.5 miles; legs; abs; biceps), fixed my new “short” hair (I got 6” off but it’s still pretty long) and…. PUT REUBEN’S HALLOWEEN COSTUME ON! Hehe SO cute – I’ll post pics tomorrow. For now – I’m off – have wonderful weekends. I’m going to visit blogs – NOW!
October Goals? CHECK!

So on 10/1 I did September’s assessment and posted October’s goals, and on 10/13 I checked them out again. I put them a sidebar on the blog and have been marking them off as I do them… and as of today, I’m done! Here’s a quick look – yay!!
- Start tracking measurements OR BMI… not sure which. DONE. I decided to measure on the 15th and last day of each month. I did it on the 15th and plan to keep it up!
- Have NO low nutrition days. DONE. non-issue. :)
- Have 7 or less high nutrition days. I made this an N/A on 10/13 as I’d already had 7! Eek! But since then I’ve only had one – 8 so far for October! I just need to reevaluate this goal I think….
- Work out at least 1 day on vacation (have 3 trips planned). N/A as so many trips fell through. This will be a great goal for November though.
- Lose 4 pounds to weigh 122. DONE as of yesterday 10/24.
- Do 50 miles of cardio (2.5 miles on 20 of 31 days). DONE as of 10/23 when I hit 51.5 miles. (still going to keep it up though – but I decided to make Friday an OFF day – yay! Going today though...)
- Make 3 new Hungry Girl recipes. DONE made a bunch of hers and others and loved most of them!
- Make 3 new snacks. DONE mostly just adding in vegetables/fruits which used to kind of scare me.
- Switch from Whiskey to Vodka. DONE.
- Limit beer to 3/weekend. DONE.
I’m going to leave these on the side until they’re replaced with November’s goals on Nov. 1…. which I’m still thinking of! So all in all – one goal was clearly not accomplished – too many high nutrition days. So this is definitely something I’ll watch for November. But I think instead I’ll give myself 8 days a month (i.e. 2 days/week) and just set a different calorie high like maybe 1,800. So even though it’s a “high day” – it’s only 250 more than goal (i.e. 3 drinks!) so it’s not that much of a biggie. Hmmmm. Am I tricking my own system or does this make good sense?? Haha Who knows. I love my system though. Obsessive? Probably. Annoying? Maybe. Strict? Likely. Either way – I’m happy to report that I think my system is working for me.
I need to go do Thursday and Friday's assessments now! :)

Day 51: Wednesday, Oct. 22, Assessment
So yesterday was a pretty good day…. Stressful at work… but I tried a kickboxing class at Knuckle Up with my workout partner (she’s in a rut – wants to try something new – I supported her!).
It was intense – like they tape your hands, put your gloves on and you’re boxing with the 200-pound bag. The place was like Testosterone Central – a dude’s paradise – very Rage Against the Machinesque.
I enjoyed the class – wonderful instructor – but I did not sign up. I could see dropping in every once in a while, but it just wasn’t totally my thing (not for $70 a month anyway). My workout partner did sign up and I’m SUPER happy for her. More than anything – grateful that she got me into the working out habit.
I’m going to miss her much, but am glad she’s doing that and I’ll probably start doing more dance classes – much more my thing! I will say – I’m pretty sore today. Like everywhere – but especially my back/shoulders and my legs from all of those kicks!!
When I got home, after stopping by the grocery store, Reuben had gotten SICK. Major sick… Austin cleaned it all and he was fine and we all hung out. Then at 4 a.m. I heard RUFF! Reuben was on the floor wanting ‘up’ into the bed. I put him up then was like wait a minute…. I walked into the bathroom (where his litterbox is) and it was full with sick…. Bless his heart! He had jumped down from bed and got sick in the bathroom – love him. So I couldn’t get back to sleep….. blah. Then I got up early and ran Reuben over to the vet…. Still waiting for results on his fecal exam. I so hope he’s okay!!! I miss him so much (it’s my work from home day/our day to spend together).
As far as weight I was at 122.5 yesterday AND today. I’m very, very happy with this – only .5 pounds more to lose in October to meet my one-pound-per-week goal. Yay! For yesterday I had a total of 1,449 calories (good!), 48 fat grams (good!), and 153 carbs – yay! I felt good about it – even though I again succumbed to a couple of Halloween chocolate treats – dang! Haha I have no idea how much I burned in kickboxing…. They say between 700 and 800. I wish there was a way to know for sure. Blah. Oh – I also introduced a “new” snack – ½ wheat pita with 1 tbsp hummus; 6 baby carrots with 1 tbsp hummus – YUM! Here's What I Ate Today. K- need to get geared up for tonight – must run to the library, run by a shoe store, get ready and if Reuben is feeling better – go watch AU play West Virginia. We’ll see…

New Recipe & Weight Debate & Day 50: Tuesday, Oct. 21 Assessment

OMG you guys – I made, by far, my favorite recipe yet… Greek Feta Chicken with Curried Rice! I found it on kitchenparade.com... i'm a fan. So basically I defrosted 2 servings of chicken, and while it was defrosting I mixed together ½ cup fat-free yogurt, .5 clove garlic minced, ¼ teaspoon dried oregeno, and a ¼ teaspoon black pepper.
Then I cut chicken into small chunks and dropped it in the mix, covered it and popped it in the fridge OVERNIGHT. (The recipe said 30 minutes – but when I get home, I eat – so I did it last night and just got home and started at the next step… but you could do 30 minutes…) I also chopped up about a ½ cup of red pepper, green pepper and carrots – which I put in a container overnight.
Today I got home, preheated the broiler, covered a baking sheet with foil and removed chicken from yogurt (discard what remains) to spread on pan – it smelled SO GOOD already. I broiled it for 6 minutes and while it broiled I cooked 1.5 cups of white rice in the microwave. When the timer went off I turned the chicken over and added ¼ cup reduced fat feta cheese, crumbled, and started the chicken for another 5 minutes. While the chicken finished cooking, I sprayed a pan with PAM and put it on medium heat. I sauteed the chopped veggies until cooked, and stirred in salt, pepper, and a teaspoon of curry powder. Then I dropped in the rice and stirred until the rice was yellow! When the timer went off my masterpiece was done! So I plated up mine and Austin’s dinner and we both LOVED IT. Our favorite so far – for real. We even think it will reheat good so since feta & yogurt will both go bad I’m going to get it ready tomorrow night to cook Thursday night and eat Friday for lunch!! In the end it had 415 calories, 3 fat grams and 60 carbs… imagine that – my meals are high in carbs – argh! It did have 32 grams of protein – that’s a plus, right?!

Part 2: Weight Debate
So… September seemed awesome with weight loss. I went from 136 on Sept. 2 to 126 on Sept. 30. 10 pounds. Awesome. This month, however, has been one of maintenance. Oct. 1 – 21 has been pretty steady around 125.5. I went down a couple of days – to 124 and even 123 one day, but I’ve ended up back at around 124 these past few days. I suppose I’m still trending down, but I feel like I’m on a plateau. I even LOOK like I’m on a plateau (see chart below). My goal for this month is to get to 122 (1 pound per week). I only have 10 more days – eek. I don’t know if I can do it… Sad.At least this morning I weighed 123.5 – that’s something I have yet to see since I started – yay! K – 9 more days – 1.5 pounds – wish me luck!!!

Part 3: Today’s Assessment
Today was okay… in all honestly, despite my happiness with seeing 123.5 on the scale, I was quite moody all day, didn’t want to go to the gym and was HUNGRY. Think it’s the crap snacks I’ve been eating…. And today I even splurged on candy/treats. So tomorrow I’m going to bring some “better” snacks like cold cuts – maybe even a mini sandwich in a pita with hummus – and string cheese, vegetables, etc. I’ll get them together tonight! All in all today wasn’t bad – I was able to do 2.5 miles at the gym, chest and triceps, and I had 1,350 calories (good!), 37 fat grams (good!), and 179 carbs (good!). Here’s the details: What I Ate Today.
Even though I had the snack size kit kat… and reese’s cup…. And 2 starburst… it wasn’t the end of the world. It doesn’t make me happy that candy is EVERYWHERE at work – in the break room, in meetings, at everyone’s desks – even brought around to your desk – sigh. I did manage to not eat cake or ice cream at the birthday social this afternoon – there’s that! K – off to watch the biggest loser and dancing with the stars on Tivo. Have great nights!

Three Recipes & Day 48 and 49: Sunday, Oct. 19, and Monday, Oct. 20, Assessments AND a new purse
Honestly, I think they were amazing and tasted JUST like fries – really. I used hungry girl’s recipe, but added paprika and 1 tbsp of olive oil for 10 oz., but to figure out how to cut the squash I watched this video. I liked how she scooped out the seeds and stuff with a spoon – easy!
We had them with boca chicken sandwiches – so good. Austin went to go play paintball so I hung out with Reuben and then decided to do something I’ve been talking about doing for a while – walk to the gym! I got ready and walked over – such awesome weather.
When I got there I walked for 3 miles on the treadmill then did abs, then walked back home. It was awesome! (4.5 miles all together – I’m pretty close to the gym)When I got home I made a grocery list based on some new recipes I wanted to try this week, then me and Austin ran to the store! When I got home I tried out Spinach Tuna Sandwiches. It was pretty good- low in calories and high in protein!! I found it on Spark People by Cherrydoll.

Basically, for two servings, you take a box of frozen spinach and cook in microwave; drain and cool. Then add a can of tuna (drained), 2 tablespoons of fat free mayonnaise, and garlic powder, onion flakes, cayenne pepper and dill to taste.
Mix it all up and put it on bread – done! I added a tbsp of fat free mayonnaise to my bread – but that’s just me. In the end, it had 192 calories, 3 fat grams and 29 carbs. I liked it, didn’t love it – Austin loved it! Here’s the full details of What I Ate Today.Today was okay. I felt blah and just tired after lunch – no fun! And work was really busy, lots of writing, writing writing which is hard on Monday! I went out to lunch at Jason’s Deli but checked the nutritional facts first and ended up with one bowl of SW chicken chili and 6 saltines – not bad! After work I wanted to go home SO BAD. But I went by the gym and did 3 miles. That’s it though – I couldn’t wait to get home. When I got home me and Austin made, you guessed it – another recipe! We tried Low Fat Lifestyle’s Cilantro Lime Salmon.
Basically you preheat the oven to 450 degrees and get two 5-oz salmon fillets, 1/10 cup lime juice, 1 tbsp soy sauce, ½ teaspoon splenda, ½ tbsp cilantro (called for fresh; I used dry), and salt and pepper. Mix together everything in a bowl while the salmon defrosts. I seasoned the salmon with spray butter, salt and pepper and baked for 10-13 minutes. While salmon was cooking, we made 1.5 cups white rice. Once salmon was done we served ¾ cup white rice, put salmon over it and then poured sauce over it. We REALLY liked it – it was very tangy and almost tasted like sushi. I don’t know – it was yum and I’ll be making it again! Here’s What I Ate Today. So after our Jason’s Deli lunch me and my co-worker swung by DSW (I had just gotten a $20 reward in the mail). I went for shoes, but found this adorable purple purse!! It’s Nine West like the blue one, but purple! AND, it was on sale from $75 to $45 so with my $20 coupon it was only $25!! Love it… k- time to go watch Gossip Girls and One Tree Hill on Tivo – yay! Hope you are having fantastic Mondays. Oh, forgot to tell you, I weighed 125 yesterday and 124 today... so i'm kind of sitting here at this weight and still haven't hit 123 again since that one amazing day. SIGH.

Home Décor… and Day 46 & 47: Friday, Oct. 17, and Saturday, Oct. 18, Assessment
So Friday felt great! I was able to get in 5 miles (walking 15 min/mile at various inclines between 5 & 0), abs, biceps and shoulders! After the gym we hopped in the shower and went over to another couple’s house for game night! We had a blast and stayed over – Reuben had fun running around their yard, too! As far as eating, here’s What I Ate Today. For food, I had 1,372 calories, 46 fat grams and 169 carbs. Once you tacked on what I drank… I had 1,804 calories, 50 fat grams and 194 carbs… so not too bad (only 254 calories over). Even with the drunk eating (1/4 of a totinos pizza…. It was worth it!).Saturday I woke up exhausted! But we stuck to the plan and made egg/turkey bacon wraps – so good! Austin had me smear a little bit of hot sauce on the tortilla before scooping the egg/turkey batch on…. YUM! I had 1,435 calories, 33 fat grams and 184 carbs – not bad at all! I actually ate a bit less during the day because I REALLY wanted to make my “fried” rice for dinner so I saved up! Here’s What I Ate Today. And no, I didn't work out... I'm going to try to do those 3 miles today!
Other than that we spent the day discussing how we both have the house buzz…. We’ve been in the loft now for 2.5 years (lease up in May) and we’re definitely moving in May. But we’re looking now and if it’s a good deal we’ll break our lease and pay penalties… that’s how much we’re ready to move and how much we’re worried we won’t find what we want/need/love come May. Don’t get me wrong – we’ve had a BLAST living in our loft (pics below!). We love the location, high ceilings, hard woods, exposed duct work, etc. However, there’s just no walls except for the bathrooms and it’s tough to have overnight company (really tough), privacy, the ability to kind of ‘do your own thing’, etc. We just think we’ve outgrown the space and are ready to have a nice 3 or 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom townhome or house with a den and living room (or basement) so we can have a den and a space for the pool table. We’ve been looking, and even checked out two properties on Saturday, but nothing yet. Right now we have no guest rooms… none…. So I took some time and created inspiration boards for each room based on what we own, what we would need to buy, etc. Here’s some pics of our place now:

So it's a lot of chocolate, naturals, camel, etc. with cranberry and a little bit of green. And we really like this - we actually did our wedding after this! I want to be able to use this really nice toile bedding my mom and sister got me when I was in grad school, so I came up with this room based on that: (click on image to make it bigger)
- Full Bed/Headboard with wrought iron piece over bed
- Toille bedding w/sheets & 2 cranberry euro pillows/cases
- Black End table w/polka dot lamp
- Vermouth painting over leather love seat bench with cranberry throw
- 6 vertically framed 8x10 black & white wedding pictures (hanging 3 in a row over 3 in a row)
- White dresser with cranberry runner on it; bowl of rose petals, and black/white framed photo of the girls.
I already have the bedding, bench, dresser, martini print, wrought iron piece, etc. So for this room all I have to buy is a headboard, black end table, euro pillows/cases, a throw, and 6 frames at Crate & Barrel. Not bad!
The second room is a bit more pricy, mostly because we'll have to buy a full bed, headboard, desk (for me to use for scrapbooking!), a 19" flat screen TV, bedding, and two lamps. We already have the 3 small vintage z gallerie pics, the bowl, our A & K from our wedding and the chair and curly willow. Here's what we want to include:
- Inexpensive Full bed from Mattress firm & a neat woven Headboard from Ballard Designs with green, solid West Elm bedding & funky euro covers. Would also like some kind of burlap-like throw blanket or pillow.
- 3 small pictures over Chestnut sawhorse desk w/ lamp, 19” flat screen TV and decorative bowl below on it
- A & K hanging over our iron end table w/funky lamp
- Chair (from Austin’s desk)
- Curly willow in corner – maybe by desk
(click on image to make larger)
So that's what i've been up to! Austin is like, "you do realize you're making up rooms for a home we haven't found yet." I'm like yeah - and now i'm going to be ready, I have down ideas we both like, I have approximations of what it's going to cost so we know up front, etc. I think he'll thank me later, in the meantime he thinks he married a nut. :)
So far today i've done this post.... so i'm going to go get in gear! TTYL!
