POM Wonderful, 8 Questions, 4 miles

I hear you - garnish or not fresh spices are the BOMB! I'm really enjoying using them for garnish too - it seriously amazes me how different garnish makes things look! So... Look what I got in ze mail!

Ryan at POM Wonderful sent me an amazing sample - a case of 8 oz. POM juices. Me and Austin put it in the fridge and immediately gave them a whirl. WE'RE FANS! As you know, I don't normally drink calories unless they're alcoholic (true story), but I wanted to try these! I think they're awesome - tastes like a flavorful apple juice + cranberry juice combo, but no acidity (which I hate; nothing like a sip that hurts the inside of my mouth - eek!). It was smooth and something i'd definitely drink again. Austin was probably a bigger fan than me. He said he's "missed juice." Oops! I thought this was very interesting (found on the POM Wonderful website): click to make larger!
Perhaps this had to do with the lack of acidity? I don't know, but this definitely makes a case for POM to me. Also, how cute is the bottle? I mean really! LOL Anywho - great product!!

Q: Have you ever tried POM Wonderful?!

So all that went down yesterday was work, 4 miles during lunch and more work. All of the food was cooked, Reuben was groomed, the house was cleaned - so it was just CHILL TIME with Austin. Love it. I ended up at 1,780 calories, 288 carbs, 42 fat grams and 71 protein grams. LOTS of carbs - don't know what happened there. I was REALLY hungry but that's a bit too much snacking. Next time i'll have more protein instead! Here's what I ate. Oh one more thing - Jenny from Not Just a Pretty Face tagged me to answer these fun questions, then come up with 8 of my own and tag 8 fellow bloggers. Love it!

1. The line from any song that always "gets you". I.e. makes you smile, tear up, feel some emotion, etc. Suddenly I see This is what I wanna be; Suddenly I see Why the hell it means so much to me. That little KT Tunstall song just gets me – makes me want to keep trying!

2. If you could choose any other name than your own, what would you choose? Probably Ryan. I was supposed to be a boy and when I was a girl they went with Kelly. Kinda wished they’d let me rock a “boy name.”

3. Everyone has their hang-ups and being able to admit those, I think, shows a sign of strength and not weakness. What is your biggest weakness and what do you do to work on it? I have several! Spreading myself too thin, holding grudges, putting too much pressure on myself to be what I view as “perfect,” being ‘gossipy’, to name a few. I swear I’m a good person LOL I just want to be a better listener, a better friend and a more full person. These are things I work on!!

4. On the other side- what's your most positive attribute? Probably being dependable – if I can be there I’m THERE. And being loyal – I don’t forget those who have stood by me or helped me and I love to return the favor.

5. The one celebrity who annoys you to NO end! Just one? I guess all of the non-celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Trista that bachelorette girl, Kristin Cavallari (sp?). I just find it annoying that they don't seem to be talented at anything? I don't get it!

6. If you could dedicate a song to anyone right, now what would that song be and to whom? Jack Johnson’s Banana Pancakes to Austin!

7. If you could own one memorabilia item from the set of ANY movie, what would that item be? Oh wow – do cars count as memorabilia?? How about clothes from a TV series? If so, everything from Carrie and Charlotte’s closets on SATC!

8. If you were forced to be addicted to ONE thing- what would you hope that thing would be? Vegetables or cardio. Talk about making my life easy!

Here are my 8 questions:

1. If you had the whole day to yourself what 3 things would you do?
2. What's your favorite ab exercise?
3. Protein powder - yay or nay?
4. What are your Labor Day plans?
5. Do you run? If so, do you have any running goals?
6. What's your favorite stretch?
7. What's your motto?
8. Do you play an instrument? If so, which one? If not, do you wish you did?

Hope my questions aren't too lame, but they are things i'm interested in right now!! I would love for any and all of you to answer them if you would like to. :)

Award, 7 Random Facts, More Harley Pasternak, A Few Recent Questions Answered!

So I tried my hardest to track the dinner from last night! I (think) I ended up at 2,010 calories, 196 carbs, 64 fat grams and 144 protein grams yesterday! Here’s what I ate (I think!).

Anywho, fun news! Staci over at Weight Loss Mama is such a sweetie- she gave me the Beautiful Blogger Award! I love her blog – that girl makes me want to run like no other! Check her out!

So now I’m to say 7 random things and pass the award on to 7 peeps! I apologize in advance if I’ve already shared these things, but here goes!

  1. I used to LOVE tennis, take lessons, was on the highschool tennis team, etc. But then dance took over and I did danceline all through high school – loved it!
  2. Me and Austin graduated from Auburn on the same day, but I stayed for grad school and he was off to Atlanta to start his job. We did long distance (well 2 hours/one timezone off) for 2 years. We didn’t miss a weekend and really worked to make it work. Clearly, I’m so glad we did!
  3. Before our wonderful Shih Poo Reuben, I had two hammies. I got my first hamster in 2004. Her name was SJ and she would accompany me on said trips to Atlanta to visit Austin. I would strap her little hammy cage in the passenger seat and we were off. She was SUCH a little puppy (i.e. would bang on her door when you got home, would beg for treats; would sit and watch TV with you, etc.). Our next Ham was Miles. I loved him but he wanted nothing to do with us. Hehe They were both cremated and are both with us at our new home.
  4. My high school had social sororities. We got away with murder and even had an annual promlike celebration (in addition to the regular prom). It was a huge deal, expensive dresses, hair/make up done, limo rides to eat at the beach, etc. We lived it up.
  5. I’m half-Hispanic, took 2 years of Spanish in high school, took 2 years of Spanish in college and I still couldn’t speak it to save my life. However, I’m pretty good at writing it and reading it. hehe
  6. I want to be a runner. I really do.While I’m not dissing my walking, I think running feels absolutely fabulous and like I’m really pushing myself! (as I’m sure walking at a higher incline would do but that never appeals to me!)
  7. The town I grew up in is in Alabama and is freakishly close to the beach (little over an hour). I went to the beach I’d say 15 times a year – probably more? However, I hate sand and jellyfish and rarely went to the actual beach (even when the house I was staying at was ON it). We would just drive down, hit the pool and party.

Those seem random, right? Maybe a little heavy on highschool? Perhaps I’m thinking about my 10-year reunion which is this. year. Oh my – class of 2000 WAS 10 years ago!

On to my 7 peeps – I would like to give this award to:

Balance is Best

Aggie’s Kitchen

Healthy Hot Housewife

Southern Circle of Hell

Spice & Sass

Laura Dishes

Nifty Eats

These are all awesome bloggies that focus on everything from wedding planning and recipes to life happenings and restaurant reviews. LOVE them all!

On to today - blah - I woke up in a bad mood with some major TOM affects going on. Eek! TOM wanted carbs so by god they were provided! Around 10 a.m. I had pizza for breakfast. Why not? It was kinda brunch, right? Then around 2 p.m. I had chicken in tomato sauce with feta… followed by an afternoon snack of popcorn. I stayed busy then before I knew it was 6 p.m. – PEACE OUT! I got lots of work done but really felt overworked and exhausted. What to do?! Harley Pasternak workouts – woo!

I did two 20-minute workouts – the first one burned 73 calories, the second burned 64. Woo!
I laid out my mat and got about ¼ through abs pilates, but then Monica came by to bring me some books and I never made it back to the mat! I did have fun visiting with her though! And then Austin came down and we had dinner – pesto pasta with chicken and mushrooms. And then we attempted to knock a goal off the list – hanging half bath shelves. Long story short – the screws were larger then the anchors so we have to start over. BLAH! So we moved on to the dining room project and made some great progress – woo! Then it was time to get in bed – I was beat – and already sore thanks to Harley. I ended up at 1,718 calories, 182 carbs, 66 fat grams and 102 protein grams. Here’s what I ate.

P.S. To answer a few recent questions: I have a Polar F7 HRM from REI. I was a pi phi at Auburn (Austin was a pike). I would LOVE to try running a 5K at the end of C25k - it will be major challenge since all of my runs now are on a treadmill. When I cook a bunch of food, I tend to keep most of it in the fridge (for 3-4 days tops). But if I make soups, sauces like spaghetti, etc. these freeze great so I freeze! I guess it just depends but I try to never cook too much in front as I HATE tossing things out! Lastly, i'm about 30 minutes from Lawrenceville, Ga.!

K - i'm OUT! TTYT!!

C25k Workout #2, Blogger Award, 7 Facts

Ahhh – you guys rock! Thanks for the tips, ideas, iPhone apps, etc. – I am really pumped about this and just feel like I’m doing it right, you know? Slow and steady! Thanks for your support – I hope I can do it!

So how was your day? Mine was pretty good, especially for a Tuesday. I slept WONDERFULLY. Like the kind of sleep where you wake up feeling well rested and realize you still have 45 minutes to sleep. Nicccceeee. I got to stay home in the a.m. before heading to an offsite at 9 a.m. – nice! Then I drove in for another meeting and then it was lunch – time to hit the gym! Me and Stacy walked 4 miles at 4.0 – burning 186 calories. Then I worked more and had a pretty busy afternoon! After work it was time to do Week 1: Workout 2 of Couch to 5K!! But this time I wore the HRM! The 20-minute workout, not including warm up or cool down, burned 98 calories! I burned a total of 122 calories in 2.25 miles (the workout is about 1.77 miles). Afterwards, we did triceps and shoulders, and I ended up burning a total of 193 calories – great workout! When I got home I just couldn’t bring myself to eat dinner. Instead I REALLY wanted more guacamole. So against my better judgment, I made a dinner out of guac, chips, bread and butter. What? Oh well – I didn’t overeat and I feel great, but I’m sure I’m going to regret not getting that protein tomorrow!

Speaking of protein – do you have a goal you try to hit each day? Sparkpeople suggested between 60 and 127 for me. Wide range, right?

And back to running – is there a stretch you like to do? How long do you stretch before and after?

Thanks friends! And oh, just realized I haven’t posted yesterday’s stats: 1,703 calories, 210 carbs, 70 fat grams and 75 protein grams. Not bad – here’s what I ate! With a total burn of about 200 calories that took me to a net of 1,503.

One more thing - I feel like a lucky lady! I’ve been given the beautiful blogger award by Emily at Homecookedem and by Merdith of Balance for MEre.

I’ve always felt like I had a lot in common with these lovely ladies and so enjoy following their blogs. Check out their 2010 goals – these girls are going to rock it! I especially like Emily’s goal of sending more thank you/get well/congrats/thinking of you notes to family and friends. I think about it, but rarely follow through and love this goal. Also, Meredith’s goal of “create a recipe” – eek! I copy so much I’d be scared but love the idea, and her goal of 1,000 miles – woo! Go girl!

So I’m to give 7 Facts about Me! Here goes…

1. I love filling my time. I really do – hobbies make me happy. I wouldn’t know what to do if I didn’t get so much happiness and satisfaction from reading, taking photos, scrapbooking, cooking, working out, etc.
2. I have a huge mouth. Huge. I can fit my fist in my mouth. Easily.
3. While I LOVE being surrounded by people and HATE being alone, I can be a bit of a hermit crab. I would be perfectly content if I never had to leave the house. Seriously!
4. I am obsessed with Reuben and have been talking a lot about getting another pupper. However, Austin says Reuben is perfect (and I agree!) so we shouldn’t rock the boat. We’ll see – I think we could use more shih poo in our lives!
5. Lately me and Austin have been talking about babies. We’re not ready yet, but we do think we want to have children one day. This is exciting. And scary!
6. I LOVE Ikea. Like, I walk into that store and feel SO inspired. I love Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn and many others, too, but nothing makes me happier than those genius Scandinavians and their adorable décor.
7. I am SERIOUSLY interested in making my own clothes. Specifically skirts. I want a sewing machine, patterns and lessons. I think I may do this in 2010…

This was hard to do! I couldn’t remember what I’d already told you all. :) Now to give this beautiful blogger award out to 7 fellow bloggers– here goes!!
