Day 344: 5.5 miles + Plate chat + Weekend Plans

Yesterday I woke up feeling fabulous and well-rested – love it! I had one of the most productive days I’ve ever had working from home! Got tons done and finished a big article that was due at COB – woo! During lunch I raced over to the gym for a brisk 3.5 miles. I completed it in 52 minutes burning 310 calories (mph between 4.0 and 4.2; incline between 4 and 0). After work I headed over for 2 more miles (burned 140 calories; mph at 4.0; incline at 1), back, biceps and abs. I had printed out my workouts and was ready to go… but I left them on the counter at home. Dang! So I headed home with 450 calories burned (took 122 minutes all together) to do my strength workouts. But I got sidetracked…. I did laundry, I cooked dinner for the next day, I folded clothes, I did another hour of work, I read blogs… I showered and got ready for work… then it was 10:30… SO – I need to do abs today, Saturday and Sunday to make up for the week because I just didn’t do it! AND I need to do back and biceps tomorrow to make up for today. I can do it!! I’m updating my calendar now. So I ended up at 1,760 calories, 266 carbs, 55 fat grams and 81 protein grams – not bad, especially with the 450 calorie burn! Here’s what I ate.

Anywho – enough about yesterday, I want to talk plates. I know it’s everywhere, “plates these days are huge; portions are out of control; blah blah insert cliché here blah.” However, I’ve REALLY noticed at our house with our plates. Check this out.

Um, gargantuan! Is it really every necessary to use that plate? If so, I may need to rethink my serving size. Me and Austin have been using the “salad” plates for a while now and I really like it. Three enchiladas? NP! “fried” rice? Done! They hold everything except for my DIY pizzas (when I roll the dough into thin crust it makes a pretty large surface). Is there a plate or bowl you like to use to keep your food in check? Or that you just like? What do you think about these crazy plate sizes?

On another note – happy Friday! Tonight we’re going out with (according to the evite) 16 of our closest friends for fun cover bands in Buckhead to continue the celebration of Austin’s birth! Woo!

We’re heading to Andy/Mon’s first though for dinner and to get little Reuben settled in, then it’s on! Tomorrow we’ve got to get up, get home and get rest/gym/etc. because we have a BBQ at 5 p.m. (thank gawd it’s near the house!). Should be a good time!! Then Sunday my friend Lindsey who is driving into town for the McCartney concert from Brunswick/St. Simons area will be meeting us for lunch. Should be a fun weekend! I’m just hoping I can get in some gym and some time to lock down the menu for the baby shower I’m hosting next weekend. I still can’t believe my friends are reproducing. On that note – peace out, have fabulous weekends and I’ll catch up with you all soon!!!

P.S. Depending on your level of boredom, here's a post from my home blog about an amusing incident that recently occurred with our neighbors/roof/etc.

Busy Busy! :)

All sounds like fun!

and I couldn't agree with you more about plate size: it's outta control! I always used the "salad" plates myself. I think it's just the past few years that plates have gotten so big. What's up with that?

I bought some cute 8" plates for myself, but I still give Harrison the 12" monsters. He's still rail thin though, so I guess it's fine.

I'll stick with my little (=normal) plates for now!

our plates are huge too. but i'm usually conservative with my portions anyways but I love using the salad plate. although in fiestaware, the salad plate is a bit smaller than i'd like.

Yup, our dinner plates are huge, too! I do think big plates are pretty, especially when you "arrange" just a little food on them. But that's the problem, it often ends up not being just a little food... So I'm always using the dessert plate instead of the dinner plate. I also use a small coffee cup as my cereal bowl. Plus we have really cute little condiment dishes, and I use those for ice cream.

Happy Friday! :)

I didn't know you had a home blog. How did I miss that? I will have to check it out!

Um yes. Plate sizes are ridiculous. Have you noticed utinsel sizes going up also? I was going to register for a new set but couldn't find one that had a big spoon smaller than my head!

Plates are made huge these days. I always second guess myself when I put food on my plate cuz it looks like am not eating a lot when in reality the plates are just too big!

Sounds like you're really dedicated to your workouts/runs regardless of leaving the paper at home. You have a lot of motivation for pushing your body...many people struggle in that way. Keep rockin' it out!

We, too, are in consensus with the rest of the comments and use our salad plates. Though ours are of the Espana collection and have a bit of a bowl-like dip to them (which the husband ADORES for some reason). And they're colorful (we got on a "rich colored" theme for a while there...anything to make the house feel "warm and welcoming").

And "McCartney concert" as in Paul??? LOVE IT! Awesome. Jealous.

Pissy: Great times! It is... I love the salad plates and agree- they're getting huge!

Mica: awww the boys can be/stay so skinny. It's unerving!

Sarah: Yes- a slightly large salad plate is perfect! haha

Andrea: Maybe that's it - i'm not there yet! (with arranging) Coffee cups for cereal is SMART! I use coffee cups for pudding/desserts!

Anne: Yes - it's just a place where we document our first home journey!! YES - they're getting longer (forks?) and almost heavier- weird!

Jennifer: Definitely! i burn more calories, I feel stronger and more toned, etc. I think it helped. I did it religously at first, then cut back and now i'm back into it! I make the workouts myself!!

She-fit: me too!! I completely agree.

Wholebodylove: i'm trying! I feel like i've gotten to where I don't miss a workout but i do eat when i'm not hungry (again) - boo.

Neesha: oooh those plates sould cool and cute! I know - yes, Paul - we didn't go but I heard it was awesome!

Morgan: hehe it's hilarious!

April: Definitely! I plan them myself with online/magazine/past trainer's ideas and just put them together in word then snag it as a jpg.!!
