Book Review, Spin Question, St. Patty's Plans

Happy Tuesday! One step closer to the weekend, right? Right? :) I'm SO READY for another weekend, and so glad that i'll be in town this weekend. We're hosting our second annual St. Patty's Beer Fest so I can't wait to see our friends, drink some beer, and have a great day at the casa playing cornhole, flipcup, Kinect, etc.!

On Saturday I finished up J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Ever heard of it? haha I absolutely LOVE the movies - always have. But I had never read the books and always wanted to. I was at my mom's and saw this on the shelf and said yup, going to read the Harry Potter books this year! Anywho, this is the first novel in the series, and I enjoyed reading about his adventures and having a picture in my head, too. I liked the book because I had forgotten some parts of the movie and it reads very closely. Also, because there were some things in the book that were left out of the film, I found Harry to be much more sarcastic, Malfoy to be much more evil and the Dursley's (his aunt and uncle) to be even meaner! I liked learning about the missing parts, especially in the beginning of Harry's time with the Dursley's, and all of the extra quiddich matches! I found the book to be much more suspenseful than than the movie, too. I give the book a 5/5 - truly nothing to change. I can't wait to read more of the series!

So Monday was a pretty busy day! I worked, walked 3.25 miles during lunch, worked more, and then took the 1-hour body pump class followed by the 1-hour cycle class. I had to leave the body pump class a bit early to make the cycle, so i'll have to do abs on my own, but the cycle class was amazing. Only my second one, but I loved the instructor. Lots of work off the bike and going back and forth from the front to over the back of the seat. Killer. It was like cycle squats. haha I was covered in sweat by the time I left the gym so good workout for me! I got home and cooked up:
  • 6 servings of potato & sausage bake
  • 4 servings of slowcooker mac & chicken
  • 4 servings of skillet lasagna
Then it was shower time and bed time - not a bad Monday and a nice way to get back in the swing of things. I wore my new pants to cycle and they worked GREAT - SO much more comfortable - I need to go buy at least one more pair! Tonight I plan to pay bills and have some fun with my label maker. I'm going to at least do the pantry - I think I need to get a different, smaller tape for the spice jars. Hmmm. Need to add that to my list!

Q: Do you plan to celebrate St. Patty's this weekend?

Q: If you spin, do you understand the 'resistance' on the bikes? Either my bikes are broken or I just don't feel it. Thoughts?

I keep thinking I need to figure out SOMETHING special to do for St patty's day! Your party sounds like fun. You may not be turning the resistance knob enough on your bike. All of the bikes are a little different and some require more turning than others. Have a good day chica :)

I am running a 5k to celebrate St. Patty's Day next weekend. :-)

I guess it depends on the bike and the instructor as well..... there are many ways to go about adding resistance. I like to tell my classes ( I teach Spinning), that we are all at different levels of fitness. If I ask them to take it to a very heavy hill, some people crank it up and others barely add any. Spinning is what you make of it....
But, if you feel the bike is broken- that's no good! ;)
If you can get there a bit early to pay around with the resistance before class, or even ask the instructor a few questions it might help!
Have fun!!

Wow, that is a LOT of working out in one day.

I definitely feel the resistance, haha. Maybe I'm just weak?

Just realized that sounded like a dig - but I meant it as a kudos! I'm impressed!

I definitely feel the resistance- just crank it up to the right as far as you can go! Love that you do back to back classes- definitely a great workout!

I actually have read the books and only seen one of the movies. I really enjoyed the books and how the reading level seems to age with the characters as well. I see you went with Disqus! How are you liking it?

I like it!! Thanks for your rec - definitely taking some getting used to!

If you're not feeling the resistance, you need to turn that sucker UP! :)
I read all the Harry Potter books and LOVED them!!
I'm running a St. Patrick's Day 10K this weekend....that's it. :)

WOOOOO YAY HP!! Favorite series ever. Glad you're reading the books- so much better than the movies!!

If you can't feel the resistance, you need to seriously CRANK it because that means it's way off. You usually have to give it at least half a dozen spins when the tension is completely released in order to feel anything!

I've found that some bikes have difference resistance. You might want to try another one and see if there is a difference.

I always have a hard time commenting in discus. It tells me my open id isn't valid or something.

Great workout! I think the resistance kind of varies on each bike, try switching your place in your next class.

Girl, I cannot believe you haven't read Harry Potter yet! The books get better as you go along too. So awesome. You'll fly through them in no time.

No specific plans for St. Patty's. We're going out Friday with friends though so I'm pretty sure something St. Patty's will happen.
