Day 217 and 218: Moving has Made me an Emotional Eater

Happy Thursday, Ladies! I wanted to start this post by thanking all of you for your support! I know I’ve been quite the bratty blogger because, clearly, I have a difficult time handling packing/moving/etc.! Dailygoods is right – I have to enjoy this journey – I’m trying – and thanks to all of you for making it even more enjoyable!

To back up a little – Tuesday, like Monday, was pretty uneventful! Just working + packing + walking 5.5 miles – not bad! I ended up at 1,672 calories, 229 carbs and 33 fat grams – a good day! Here’s what I ate. Yes, I caved in the break room and had a mini brownie bite. Then I went back for another one. It’s like as SOON as stress hits I want chocolate or candy. Well, really, I want a cigarette, but I don’t want to pick that up again so….chocolate and sweets it is. I just feel like there has to be a better way!!!

Yesterday was a pretty good day! Stacy couldn’t walk – boo – but I did get in 4 miles at lunch (walked in the gym in my building so I could walk longer; usually we drive to our parent company’s gym because there’s more treadmills). Work was good – got done what I needed to get done and got oughta there! After work I headed to the gym for another 2 miles and chest/tris but I didn’t feel good again – so I left before my strength training. Had to go to the store for a few things… and I did the ultimate stress eat – I bought 4 airheads and ate them – like in the car on the way home (the car ride is maybe 5 minutes from the store with traffic – under a mile). Haha I just caved and had gotten myself all worked up and stressed. I must admit – the airheads were YUMMY! I just have to get a hold on this rando stress eating – I don’t think it’s healthy (not what I eat; but the fact that I resort to that sometimes when I’m worked up). Other than that – me and Austin made greek feta chicken and I fell asleep. Like on the couch at 7:30 p.m. I think my lack of sleep is catching up with me. I woke up about 30 minutes later – a little groggy – but helped finish packing until 11 (again) – boo. We got lots done though and I went straight to bed and got a GREAT night’s sleep – woo! I ended up CRAZY high on carbs (hello, airheads and late night cereal!) at 1,889 calories, 309 carbs and 20 fat grams. Here’s what I ate. Oh – and when I put this in my Spark People and clicked the ‘I’m done entering food, please give me feedback’ it said and I quote, “Get a handle on emotional eating. It isn't easy to learn new ways to deal with your emotions that don't involve food. Try our 10-step process to beat the emotional eating blues.” Haha I was like FOR REAL? LOL I clicked on it and followed the path to this article about emotional eating. Interesting, no? K – off to take advantage of my lunch break – trying to decide if I want to pack or walk!!

P.S. Do you think the new Old Navy commericials with manequins are hilarious or creepy? Or both? LOL I just saw one (the tatoo on his 'old legs') haha.
P.S.S. I ordered two chairs for our seating area and they were delivered to WORK not HOME. OMG so embarrassing! They're at home now though - and we put one together and it's so cute - love!

I am definitely an emotional eater - even if I get the slightest bit stressed, I can down a whole box of thin mints in a couple days - not normal! =/ lol

I think those old navy commercials are super creepy!

WOW - I had the exact same conversation with my coworker yesterday regarding stress eating. It's the first thing I turn to when I get worked up about anything. I'm really trying to find alternatives to dealing with this huge problem-o!

Do not worry about one day full of goodies, though...you are extremely consistent with your calories and walking. One day won't undo it all! :)

airheads! I used to love them, esp the white ones! I can't find them anywhere now though.
I'm an emotional eater too, though in the opposite way. I starve myself when I'm stressed.

The Old Navy commercials are ok. The thing about them is - they are coming from what is supposedly the best ad agency in the country. For that level of creativity, I don't think they are that much better than the ones that Old Navy used to produce in-house. Also, they are vaguely sexist.

Are those the Whole Foods two-bite brownies? Those things are my snacking downfall.

Don't be so hard on yourself! Everyone tends to resort to eating bad when they are stressed. At least you know are aware of this tendancy and can try to avoid it when possible!

You have/are doing so good with your eating and lifestyle changes. You are a definite motivator for me to stay with it :)

Can't wait to see you soon. Last weekend was SO much fun!

Oh and P.S....the Old Navy commercials are W-E-I-R-D. I dont like watching them late at night for fear of manneguin nightmares. And you think I am kidding!

I've been such a stress-eater the past few days too. Thanks so much for those links!

I hope your moving stress calms down soon! Good job keeping up the walking during these crazy days!

HILARIOUS that SparkPeople gave you that feedback. I have taken a sabbatical from there since I'm afraid of what they'd say about my stress-wedding-planning eating! It's been so inconsistent.

I hope things are going smoothly up in the new home!

I know allllll about the emotional eating thing! What's so great is that you're completely aware of it! Your calorie count for the day still wasn't that bad though, especially if you've been getting in additional exercise through moving. Lack of sleep always throws me off, too...or just being tired. My appetite always grows!

That's so ironic about the Sparkpeople note on emotional eating. I'm going to follow the link!

I just wrote a long post about this! I'm not sure if it's stress eating so much as test-eating (hmmm, can I get away with THIS?!). Haha. Don't worry, once you get back into the swing of things it will even itself out!

Sweetandfit: Me too! Why are we this way?! OMG thin mints – I can down those with no stress involved! Haha they ARE!

Balanceisbest: What a coincidence! I know, me too, after the aforementioned ciggie – boo. Me too – healthy alternatives! Thanks, girl – def – it doesn’t bother me what I eat when I do it it’s just that I eat when I’m not hungry – boo.

Pissy: :) Love YOU!

Burpandslurp: haha those are my husband’s favorite!! Oh wow – that’s not my problem at all – I starve myself when I’m PISSED! Haha

De: hmmmm should have known you’d know the back story advertising girl! Haha they definitely perpetuate stereotypes – if I was in grad school I’d totally do a paper on them for gendered communications!! They’re actually Atlanta Bread Company – but they have them EVERYWHERE now. I was first introduced to the one’s from Costco from Austin’s mom circa 4th of July 2006! Um – TOTAL downfall!

Monbon: oh I’m def trying not to be – I just don’t think it’s a good idea to run to food when I’m not hungry – I worry!! And yes, I’m aware now – officially!! :) Thanks, lady – I owe it all to you for getting me started! Yes- SUCH a blast! Haha they ARE!! LOL mannequin nightmares!! I don’t think you’re kidding you nut!

Everygym’s nightmare: oh yeah! Right up there with ring pops and fun dip – what?!

Katecooks: I mean, right?! I hate it for us all! Oooh Easter candy? Why does every holiday mean sweet treat time?! Haha I hear you – me too! Over Christmas for me it was Tostitos jalepeno scoops!

Mica: NP – couldn’t believe SP brought those up when I posted! Thanks so much! I was so glad to get in the mileage – helped keep me sane!

Neesha: I know!!?? I was like seriously?! Haha oh yeah – I gained during my engagement – was WAY more interested in doing wedding stuff than doing work out stuff! Thanks so much – so far the move is good!!

Haley: Thanks, Hayley – the blog is definitely showing me some patterns fo sho! Yes – it didn’t throw me off too much but yes – lack of sleep is like HELLO bad food – can’t help it! I want carbs with a side of carbs! SP is so in tune (apparently!).

Thinspired: This is so funny – clearly a hot button issue in our blog community!! Haha I never thought of it that way!! I think so too – thanks for your support, girl!
