4 Miles, Movie Review, New Recipes Coming Soon

Thank you!! I really needed your running advice to get to the next level. I'm now looking into the Fit Sugar and Hal Higdon plans - both seem a bit aggressive (i.e. 4-5 runs per week). I worry I can't get in this many runs with my schedule and with my body! Going to research it more - thank you again for the advice!! And to answer a couple of questions:

A: The stand in our room for our TV is from Ikea. I think they're on sale right now for like $80!

A: I don't know if I'll ever run a race. I don't know if I want to. I'm not an outdoor runner and just thinking about it makes me start to sneeze. I am VERY allergic to grass (hence my February wedding - when all things that make me sick are dead). I wouldn't be able to start running out there until October at earliest... so I guess, for now, put me down for a maybe. You guys will be the first to know if I ever decide to try one!!

So yesterday was pretty standard! Just worked, walked 4 miles during lunch while reading more of Impossible, worked more and then headed straight home for family time! We had spicy spaghetti pie for dinner – so good. And then I settled in to watch Whip It. What a cute, inspiring movie. Yes, a bit predictable at times, but I loved the many messages:

  • Be your own hero. She saw those girls rollerblading and loved it. Instead of continuing to be an envious observer she busted our her skates to see what she was made of. She sucked. But she worked hard, got better and ended up being a big part of a winning team.
  • Don’t drop your old friends just because you made new ones. It’s awesome to make new friends. It’s actually one of my favorite things to do! But it’s important to not forget about your old friends, carry them with you, introduce new and old and make it work.
  • Love your mother. No, she’s not you. Yes, you disagree on some things. But she only wants what’s best for you and, ultimately, she only wants you to be happy.
  • Don’t put up with crap. Loved how she’d let a girl mess with her, then get right back at her. Let the boy be a jerk, and then kick him to the curb. Was she a bit harsh at times? Yes. Confrontational? No – she just stuck up for herself which is always cool.
Yup – loved it. Cute little anthem to being who you are, being who you aspire to be, keeping your friends and family close and loving yourself enough to stick up for yourself. If you haven’t seen it I hope you see it, enjoy it, and like the positive messages it sends.

Other than Whip It, I got ready for next week which I hope to make: ‘New Recipe week.’ Here is a list of recipes I plan to try. It’s going to be tight with travel but it’s my goal:
  • Sausage Skillet Scramble
  • Skillet Tacos
  • Baked Sausage & Tomato Pasta
  • Chicken Tamale Casserole
  • Spicy Sesame Noodles
  • Tomato, Spinach and Dill quiche
  • Ham Hashbrown Casserole
  • Beef, Bean & Cheese Taquitos
  • Chicken and Basil Stirfry
I’m so excited to make these I can hardly stand it – but I’m waiting until Sunday night to begin cooking – eeee! I am going to the store today so I’ll have the ingredients on hand when I return to Georgia! And to avoid a picture-less post, here is a pic of me and my two favorite co-workers: Mel and Stacy from Stacy's wedding.

They seriously make work fun! Mel has been out a lot this week and with Stacy on her honeymoon it's been a major reminder of how important people/friendships are at work!

Q: Have you seen Whip It? If so, did you like it, love it or hate it?

Q: Any new recipes you’re dying to make?

Q: Any co-workers, classmates, etc. that make work/school easy/fly by?
