Have a Question?, Loving Body Pump, Gym Decision

I LOVED Gabriela’s comment: "I think it's a great idea (to remake recipes) as bloggers become better cooks. The more you learn, the better your recipes are, so why not apply that new knowledge to old posts too, right?" I TRULY agree. I tweaked (or deleted!) several of my recipes when I moved over to Healthified Kitchen. But a few the pictures were so bad I didn’t even migrate them! Instead, I made a list of recipes I need to remake/take new pictures of. This is where I think I can tweak if need be!

Speaking of comments, earlier this week I was asked what mph I walk at. I walk at 4 mph at inclines between 4 and 0. Did I miss any more questions? Leave questions in the comment sections and i'll do an answer post next time! :)

Real quick flash back - this was taken one year ago today:
It's 65 degrees today and straight up HOT out there now; no snow in sight. OY. Anywho, I finally made a "gym decision." I have joined a gym that has multiple locations (four between my office and home) and TONS of classes. I joined primarily for Body Pump, Cycle, Boot Camp and Zumba. I'm just noticing that weight is creeping back on. I think it's because I can't run anymore which saddens me. I've GOT to find a way to replace this caloric burn. Enter classes. I made a schedule (I know, shocker) and am going to try out classes, instructors, etc. and try to burn more calories. Walking alone just won't cut it for me which is sad. :( So Wednesday, I worked, had another working lunch (SIGH) then worked more. After work I drove over the to the gym and signed up! I then walked 3.5 miles, and took a 1-hour body pump + abs class. I think I got a great workout in - I know my arms are SUPER sore today so there you go! This move got me the most - not so much the squat - but she would have us go up on one foot - it was a special kind of burn. Then we would switch feet and go up on the other foot. THEN, we would go up on both feet. Oy. I couldn't find a video of this but TRUST, it made a difference. :)

After the class I headed straight home, had dinner and hung out with the fam - pretty good night!

Q: Have you ever tried sumo squats while up on one foot?

Q: Ask anything! If you have a question - add it to the comments and i'll answer all in my next post!

You can't run? Maybe the Elliptical will work? I burn TONS of calories on that sucker. About 500-600 in an hour. Low impact so it doesn't hurt my old knees. The classes should give you a nice variety.

Whoop whoop to the gym! Pump is fabulous :) Does your gym at have Attack? If so- you should definitely try that too. And combat! I'm clearly a Les Mills freak (since I teach ;)). Glad to hear you're going to be re-doing a lot of recipes- I look forward to seeing the results. The weather was quite warm today! I think they said it got to 76 in Charleston. Hope you have a fantastic Friday pretty lady!

I love Body Pump. I try to do it a couple times a week.

I definitely think you need to have more variety in your workouts. As your body adapts (stress adaptation response) it stops burning calories because it is much more efficient. Also when you are trying to drop 15-10 lbs you really have to incorporate more resistance/weights into your workouts with high intensity intervals for cardiovascular fitness.

Im currently in a similar boat and it is a bitch. I am a cardio junkie but even runnin several miles x 4 a week I was GAINING weight on 1200 calories... :-( I clearly have to reboot my metabolism and change things up.

I loooooove the Les Mills series also... I take Body Pump, Attack and Combat. And I really can't run much because of bursitis in my hip, but I do hop on the treadmill and go at 4 mph with my incline between 9 and 15 and I am amazed at how many calories that burns in 40 - 50 minutes : )

Happy New Gym-ing! I'm about to quit mine. I just don't have time to go. PLUS I've lost weight before without a gym. And the classes there weren't anything to get too excited about so I don't feel like I'm missing much.

My question is how tall are you? I feel like you are "Tyler sized" or shorter (I'm 5'3). I feel like I had a good one at one time for you and forgot it! Bah!

I've been reading your blog for about a week now, and I already subscribed to your recipe page, but now I'm going to follow this blog too! I enjoy your posts a lot!

I've been reading your blog for a while now, but don't usually comment (more of the "silent" type). Ha. Anyway, I've been checking out Healthified Kitchen too because of your recipes....until today I never put two and two together that it was yours as well! Ding dong!

Anyway, the recipe revision looks great and I will check it out soon.

I love Body Pump and it makes me feel so great and strong. Enjoy!

good for you with the gym thing!!! I think you will love the variety of classes that a big gym has to offer (esp. spin and zumba). That bfast pizza in the post below looks tasty!!!

Isn't BP AWESOME?? Definitely my all-time favorite gym class. And it's great because building muscle is a way to burn more calories without doing anything!!
