My Vegas Trip: The Good & The Bad (and a few pics)

So my trip – here’s a nutshell!

Good: We got in town pretty easily, had a wonderful dinner of sushi, lobster spring rolls, miso soup and coconut chicken/rice at the Mirage.

Bad: My Internet didn’t work for shiz so I wasn’t able to blog, read blogs, etc. from the hotel. I’m tres behind but am SO excited to catch up with you guys!!

Good: Our first night here we saw the Beatles Love show at the Mirage. It was A. M. A. Z. I. N. G. I just couldn’t get over it. I was literally on the edge of my seat. It was much more of a musical and a story, and less about acrobatics. Although, don’t get me wrong, it had that, too. But I loved all of the dancing and the constant surprises and the evolution of the Beatles and their work and music. Such a wonderful story and beautiful tribute to one of my favorite bands. It was seriously the best show I’ve ever seen!!! After the show we hung out in the “Beatles Lounge” listening to their music, then headed back to Mandalay to the House of Blues Foundation room – which provided an AMAZING view of the strip and city.

Bad: I had a hard time making good food choices whilst here. Monday was good, but Tuesday was a little rough with Mexican food at lunch (Mandalay Bay’s Border Grill) and then dinner was at the House of Blues reception for our company so I had just a spoonful of a creamy pasta (maybe 8 bow ties all together?) and 2 triangles of a cheese quesadilla. Wednesday was a toughie too – breakfast burrito followed by salmon salad with pasta salad and then pizza. Sigh.

Good: Me and Stacy made it to the gym on Tuesday. We walked/ran 4.5 miles including C25K Week 3 Workout #2 and abs. It took 1 hour and 16 minutes, and burned 329 calories. The runs felt great and I’m SO excited about my progress so far.

Bad: We never made it back to the gym. And drinking, drinking, drinking. Monday I had 2 vodka drinks, 2 beers and 1 glass of wine. Tuesday I had 2 vodka drinks and 2 glasses of wine. It all adds up and I hated being so foggy during the week ya know? But honestly it was VERY much the thing to do and certainly lent itself to great networking opportunities.

Good: We got our job done! We did a great job rocking out what we came here to do. Me and Stace are a great team and it was fun to hang out!

Bad: The hours got longer and longer as the week went on and I ended up not being able to get together with my stepsister Jill. :( Also, I didn’t get to talk to Austin nearly as much as I wanted with the 3-hour time difference. Sad.

Good: Natasha Bedingfield played at last night’s event!

Bad: We had a 5:45 a.m. wake-up call and lots of work to do… we did not attend. :(

Good: The Mandalay Bay is a beautiful hotel! We liked it better than where we stayed last time, at the New York New York. Also – there was another event here – some TV conference so Hugh Laurie, the Modern Family actors and some other peeps were wondering around – pretty cool! Me and Stacy walked RIGHT by Manny’s mom – her voice was EXACTLY the same!

I’m going to end on a good note. I will say that I TOTALLY miss Austin and Reuben and my life and my routine. This event/hotel/etc. was just crazy smokey and anti-working out! haha I figure, it’s only once a year and then I’ll get back to it, right?

What do you do when you return from a series of high-calorie days?

Have you ever seen cirque de soliel? If so, what show and did you love it?!

K friends – I’m off to my LAST event, and then i'll be at the airport. I plan to read your blogs on the 4-hour plane ride - WOO! Please know that I HATED not being able to read about your worlds, post pictures, etc. – TOTAL boo!

Here are a few pics (just the work-related pics - my personal camera's upload cord is in Atlanta!)

I've heard that the Beatles thing was awesome. I think my dad went to see it last year. I've seen one Cirque Di Soleil; I think it was like 10 years ago though.

After a bunch of high calorie days, I return to my normal eats/workout and I don't weigh myself for a week or so. I just feel like I don't want to see the damage that I've done, I'd rather just undo it and pretend it didn't happen if that makes sense.

Sounds like a good trip! Don't worry about a bit of indulging; as you said, it's only once a year. You'll get back into your normal routine and everything will be just fine... :)

Have a safe trip home!

Hi! I just found your blog and I love it! Sounds like you had a great time in Vegas!

After a major splurge, I usually try to eat as "cleanly" as possible for a few days and avoid processed food and extra sugar. It just makes me feel like I've detoxed a little!

I saw Cirque de Soleil over ten years ago...I can barely remember it! I think it was called Allegria.

Have a safe trip!

I wouldn't worry about the extra drinks and high calorie foods - its just one week, and you'll get back to your routine and be fine.

Sounds like you did a great job!!

That trip looks like so much fun! ... even if it was for work and you couldn't work out as much as you would have liked. A couple days wont kill you... BUT did you know ExerciseTV is now in your HOTEL ROOM! AMAZINGGG. So next time you go on a work trip don't fret! You can workout in the comfort of your hotel room.

And I just saw Koozah from Cirque. Amazing.
