New Recipe, Sweet Tooth Solution, Back in the Saddle Again

Thanks you guys - I was really happy with how the snow pictures came out. I just think snow is SO pretty. I'm not feeling much better today but i'm going to head into work so we'll see! Supposedly traffic won't be bad since lots of peeps - including Austin - will be home today, and i'm thinking the office will be dead so why not go in and get some stuff done in the quiet?!

Backing up to yesterday - I started it out with my favorite breakfast – a potato/egg/sausage burrito. Nom nom nom. Then I got on Netflix on Demand and found a bunch of randomness – including an old favorite, Seaquest DSV!! Me and Austin both loved that show back in the dizzy so it was fun to watch! I also had Biz’s Buffalo Chicken Chili. It DID NOT disappoint – OMG. So good. Spicy but cool, flavorful, filling and I really felt like I was eating something really bad for me – but it’s not! I used all of Biz’s stuff – just cut it in half and decided to use the slow cooker...and was lazy and didn't puree the celery, garlic and red pepper!

Best Buffalo Chicken Chili by Biz over at Biggest Diabetic Loser

4 servings

1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts
2 stalks celery, diced
½ large red pepper, diced
2 tsp minced garlic
2 ½ tbsp of chili powder
1 tbsp ground cumin
½ tbsp paprika
¼ cup Frank’s Hot Sauce
1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
1 (15 oz) diced tomatoes
1 (15 oz) black beans, drained
1 (15 oz) chili beans in sauce (do not drain)
salt and pepper to taste
4 tbsp fat-free sour cream
Jalapeno, sliced thinly

Add all ingredients to slow cooker and cook on high for 3 hours. Shred chicken with two forks. Divide into four servings and serve with fat-free sour cream and jalapeno slices. Nutritional Information (including sour cream): 417 calories, 55 carbs, 3 fat grams and 40 protein grams.

So yesterday before we went to the store I explained to Austin that my sweet tooth is out of control. It’s just a reality now that I have to have something sweet after breakfast, lunch and dinner. There’s nothing wrong with that, but not preparing for it does me no favors. When I’m not prepared, I buy things in too big of portions, I eat 7 mini snickers at work, etc. So, at the store last night I picked up some new sweets:

Reduced Fat Chips Ahoy - first time trying these! While they're a little hard and not very "chocolate chipy" - they satisfy the sweet tooth and that's what it's about. Also, Publix had them at buy one get one free - nice!

Publix Frosted Oatmeal Cookies - My mom introduced me to these and they're SO good.. Kind of crispy but also chewy. They're like ginger snaps with something sweet on them. Love...

You can have THREE chips ahoy cookies for 140 calories. So I can have one cookie after each meal. Not bad, right? OR, I can have FIVE frosted oatmeal cookies, so 1 with breakfast, 2 with lunch and 2 with dinner. Hope this works for me!

I decided to work out. For real. I didn’t feel 100% but really wanted to do something. During yet another Big Love, I got the floor and did some abbies:

25 knee-up crunches

25 left/right crunches

15 bicycles (left/right is 1)

20 straight leg flutter kicks

15 sprinters

25 straight leg crunches

REPEAT

I haven’t done abs in way too freaking long a while, so I felt the burn fo sho! After that I sucked it up and drove over to the gym for 5 miles and legs. I was able to get in the 5 miles in 75 minutes burning 219 calories. Then I got home and made a lasagna. O. M. G. It was amazing - i'll post all about it tomorrow but i'm a fan and am no longer afraid of making it!

After stuffing my face with lasagna me and Austin watched more Big Love. I ended up at 1,653 calories, 209 carbs, 41 fat grams and 113 protein grams. Here’s what I ate. So I'm happy with this amount, but the sweet tooth solution is definitely a work in progress. As in I had 1 serving of the oatmeal cookies and 2 servings of the chips ahoy. Eek! Too much junk! Today is another day though.

Do you have a sweet tooth? If so, what satisfies it for you?

When you do abs, how many exercises do you try to do? How many sets of each? How many days a week?

I do have a sweet tooth. I make protein cakes or eat bee pollen granules.

That chili looks tasty!

I do 1 ab day a week. I throw in some abs the 2 following days after but only 2 different exercises with 2 sets.

Sample ab day: I do 3 sets of each. http://redhead75.wordpress.com/2010/02/11/my-ab-day/#comments

I don't have a sweet tooth...I have more like a sweet mouth. Seriously, sugar is my weakness. As for abs, I do a bunch of exercises a few times a week: bicycles, crunches, medicine ball twists, reverse crunches, etc. I'm not too scientific about reps or anything though!

I have a serious sweet tooth. I really like ice cream. I find that I can only buy things that are individually sized (like Skinny Cow's) or I will eat like 3 times the serving size!

What are sprinters? I do abs kind of randomly. I should do more, but I often forget and then I'll be like, Oh, I haven't done any ab stuff for two weeks. Oops." Sometimes I go to Pilates though.

Yeah, my sweet tooth is pretty out of control right now, hence all the ridiculous baking. I just try to counteract it with running, but I'm kind of losing the battle.

My sweet tooth is also ridiculous hence my blog name. However, it actually is getting better since I ate up most of the sweets. If I avoid them then I don't crave them, sometimes if I pretend they aren't around I don't either. I actually went an entire week until yesterday without having sweets (well it was valentines day and boyfriend and I were out to dinner so we got dessert together. This of course makes me want more and more like a positive feedback effect... I'm working on curbing that one.

I don't do abs too often because when I loose weight i often loose it there fast and they are still pretty strong from doing gymnastics. When I am in an abs mood I will usually do a power pilates dvd just v-ups, crunches, any ab exercise I can think of until I know it will hurt the next day!

I love how honest you are on here. You just lay it out there, and let people either exept it or criticize you. It takes a lot of guts. I have a HORRIBLE sweet tooth. If I wake up at 7 am and see cookies on the table I will have one. It is pretty awful. Anyway thanks for all of your thoughts, its very motivating!
Keep the faith

That chili sounds so good! I love spicy food!

I don't have a huge sweet tooth, but when I have a sweet craving it's usually for chocolate!

When I am craving something sweet & I am not willing to indulge I have tea with Agave Nectar. It is sweet but I don't have to feel the guilt!!

Mmm gotta try that recipe!!

I am SO bad about doing ab work- but I really am trying to do it twice a week for now, until I lose more belly fat and then I'll incoporate more. What you do sounds great- sounds about what my trainer made me do...

I definitely have a sweet tooth. I love eating fiber one bars (they taste like a candy bar to me!) and chocolate vitatops with PB on top.

That chili looks so good! Andrew and I would love it!!

Hope you're having a great day!! :)

That chili does look tasty! :)

Glad you like those oatmeal cookies. I don't buy the Kashi ones anymore. I've replaced them with these. :)

I have SUCH a sweet tooth. Usually dark chocolate does the trick ;-)
For abs, I usually do stability ball exercises and planks. But I'm really bad with frequency. I do them maybe twice a week.

My sweet tooth is crazy too! I am going crazy trying to deal with it. It mostly comes out when I am stressed or really busy with school.

Um. If I have a sweet tooth, I fantasize about Krispy Kremes. LOL but now that I'm gluten free, I'm doing the Trader Joe's organic chocolate caramels. Yes, totally not low-fat or anything but I just count all the calories etc. And not let it happen a lot hopefully!
Hey I'm in Hotlanta on Thursday-Friday staying near the Vinings. Shoot me a note if you can grab coffee or whatever!! ;-)

Oh my gosh, that chili looks so good!

I try to do abs twice a week but I think I need to do 'em more often because I still have no ab definition at all!

I have such a sweet tooth. I'm thinking about giving up sweets for Lent and it's going to be TORTURE!

I don't have a sweet tooth, but I do have a hankerin for your tasty looking chili! :) So thanks for the recipe! And I hope you feel better soon! I have felt "off" lately and blacked out WHILE running today. Nothing bad happened, luckily, but it was scary to find myself half a lap further then I remembered being what seemed like half a second earlier. Be careful!!!

I do have a sweet tooth (and I developed it late in life as I seriously used to dislike sweets when I was younger...). A piece of good dark chocolate usually satisfies my sweet tooth.

yum! that chili looks wonderful! I LOVE 1-2 squares of extra-dark chocolate after dinner! I love the taste but I can't eat too much of it at once so it's perfect!

I have a sweet tooth but am kicking it for lent. Mine was out of control too! Like mini snickers and twix at the office and peanut butter brownies over the weekend and homemade s'mores. And cupcakes, cookies at bakeries, and whoopie pies as you saw. :) It just goes on and on. In my feeble attempt to give up but not go crazy, I got some pudding. I hope that's not too horrible for me!

Oh and I do do abs but don't keep up with how many, etc. Maybe I should??
