Travel Diaries Part 1 of 2: Are You Too Dependent Upon Technology? I am...

Ladies, ladies, and maybe a gentlemen or two. I did something I've never done before yesterday and my reaction surprised even me. So i'm going to the airport to go to Virginia. I park the car, walk up a hill, buy my marta pass (train), go down the landing, the train comes, I get on and WHERE IS MY CELL PHONE?! And by cell phone, I am of course referencing my means of talking to the outside world, my connection to my work and personal email accounts, my iPod for music, my navigation for a sense of direction, my TV for Sex and The City, and the list goes on. WHERE is it? It's in my car. Do I have time to get it? No. My choices:

A: Have your phone (YAY!) but miss your flight and your best friend's rehearsal dinner.

B: Be incommunicado. "Go dark" as Jack Bauer would say. Be scared, confused and alone because what in the eff did I do before I was attached to this device?

I reluctantly chose B. However, OMG - had to tell peeps what was going on! So I popped out the laptop + aircard and started frantically sending emails (only when the train was not in the tunnel - sigh). Within minutes Megan, Lindsey and Austin had sent me their cell phone numbers and I wrote them down circa 1995 AKA the last time I didn't have my own cell phone. By the way, yes, you read that right, I did not know my husband's cell phone number. And you know what, who does? I mean really. Your communication device stores all of that for you. Sigh.

So I get to the airport and you heard it here first, there are no clocks at Hartsfield-Jackson. Really? Of ALL the places to not have clocks, clocks and more clocks? So i'm asking people for the time. You would've thought I was asking them for their first born they were so taken aback. I get to the gate (finally, after whining about my phone to at least 4-5 "friends" I met in security and on the train) and I'm the last one on the plane. MADE IT!

Oh but not yet... I had to battle a flight attendant... More on that tomorrow. In the meantime, know that I'm safe and alive in Virginia with my besties and had a BLAST last night! Lindz is taking all the pics this weekend and hooker forgot her camera cord so I'm going to be a picture-less blogger until Monday. I know, true story. BUT, I'll post Travel Diaries Part 2 of 2 tomorrow, starting with the Airtran employee who messed with the wrong person yesterday.

I'll leave you with this someecard - notice the section it's in at the top left... hehe Bye for now!

Q: Are you dependent on technology? If no, have you ever been in a situation where you would discover that you are? If no, then you might be... :)

Q: Has this ever happened to you before?

The only phone number that I know by heart is my dad's office number. Seriously! Everyone else's number has changed at some point and been put into my phone. Remember the days of knowing everyone's numbers by heart?

Haha oh my goodness, I totally am right there with ya gf! I don't know if you remember reading this on my blog, but in spring I dropped my cell phone onto the subway tracks and didn't have my phone for a few hours- I thought I had cut off my arm or something. It was horrible, and I only knew like two people's numbers, none of which were my boyfriend's who was coming into town that day to visit me.

Have a good trip!

I don't know my fiance's number either hehe. I could live without my cell phone but the internet I could not. When I was in China this past summer, it was like going through withdrawl lol By the end of the trip I realized it was kind of nice to unplug and get away. I feel my fiance and I had bonded as well. :)

Oh my gosh I'd be crying. I have my dad's, BF's and brother's numbers memorized, but that's it. My mom got a new number about two years ago and it was just too late in the game for me to memorize it. Major props for you for going phoneless though...just think of how many fun texts and emails you'll have gotten by the time you find it again!!

That is the WORST! I love my cell phone but when Ryan and I go on vacation, it gets left behind which feels amazing.... No computer, no blackberry is a great vacation!

Definitely happened to me! I had to hop on Facebook to see who had their numbers listed on their profiles to get a hold of anyone..haha.

Unfortunately, I am. As I think most people are. Which makes me sad.

The reason I didn't want an Android/Smartphone is for this very reason. I told myself that I would rely on it too much to entertain me and to hold all of my info. I was right- but got one. lol.

Sometimes I wish I could just go on vacation and not check my facebook or email or blogs or anything else and be OK, but I start to get anxiety...FROM THE FREAKING internet. haha

What a tough decision to not go back for it, but at least you made the right one and didn't miss your flight!

Back in college I had driven with some friends to Atlanta for a concert and my purse was stolen at the concert - no phone, car keys, wallet etc & none of the friends I was with had any of my other friends' numbers. Luckily I was able to remember my bf's cell # (who already lived here) and haven't forgotten it since that night :)

Hope you're having a great time at the wedding, phone-free!

That is too funny - but I had to agree with you - I have no idea what my husband's cell phone number is either - I just press one on my speed dial!

Can't wait to hear about the flight attendant story!

This has happened to me and I feel lost without my cell phone. I feel like every minute I'm missing something and I'm always on the edge.

You know what's funny, when I leave my phone at home, I drive very carefully, slow and almost like a grandma. God forbid I get in a car accident and don't have my phone to call for help.
