Day 2 in Colorado, 3 Miles, Why I Like Beaver Creek

Wow! Sounds like Eat Pray Love was not a winner for any! I'm honestly glad to hear this - I was feeling kind of bad about not liking it. I wanted to. And I love Julia. But I was just like ew - I don't like this! It sounds like you all are having great holidays, too! I think it was Kacy who said her day was spent doing yoga and cooking - AWESOME!

So Yesterday was another great day in Colorado! I got up early, had an everything bagel and cream cheese, then got ready and headed to the lifts! On the way there was a lady handing out fresh baked cookies. Love it. Me and Austin split one, although my glove got LOTS of chocolate on it, as did my face. Note: Eating fresh baked chocolate chip cookies in ski gloves is not a good idea. We headed up and did lots of runs, before taking lunch at the base of the Centennial Lift at McCoy's Cafe (I got a Southwest wrap – large tortilla with a bit of salsa, sour cream and guacamole, lots of lettuce and tomato and grilled chicken). I had a few fries too. Then we headed back out. After another hour I was ready to come in, so I got back, visited with Austin’s mom, then the two of us headed to the gym for a 3-mile walk. Afterwards we had a glass of wine before showering and cabbing it to dinner in a nearby town, Avon. We went to Vin 48 Restaurant and Wine bar. I got the salmon with couscous and spinach. The read there was so good – 1” cubes of foccaica with three dips – a pureed roasted red pepper, a pureed basil alioi and a sweet butter. I LOVED the basil and roasted red pepper mixes, and thought the idea of this was awesome. After dinner we took a trolley/train home, had a bit of hot chocolate and then I passed out. Another GREAT day skiing. Here's some pics:

I happened to be behind the family when we got back from Avon to Beaver Creek!

Fog. boo. On a run taking a picture break
hehe I loved these recliners everywhere! They were made of straight up plastic -like playground furniture. I loved that it had pillows and everything. Lots of cool areas with fire pits.
These places along the trails were so cool looking

haha this pic cracked me up of Austin and his bros
I’m really liking Beaver Creek – here are a few reasons why:
  • Escalators. Yes, they have escalators up to the lift, no awkward steps in ski boots.
  • Heated walkways. The whole town is built around a village that has a cobblestonesque walkway through it (we keep calling it Diagon Alley from Harry Potter!). Along the sides of the path are shops and each has condos above it – SO cute and made to look like a village similar to Beauty and the Beast! Anywho, back to the paths, they’re heated. No slipping!
  • Short lines. I don’t know if it’s Beaver Creek or the time that we’re in town, but regardless, I haven’t waited a lift longer than 3-5 minutes. VERY cool.
  • It's tagline. It's Beaver Creek. Not exactly roughing it. This makes me smile -a ski resort with a sense of humor. I heart non-stuffy places!

Q: Have you been bombarded by Beauty and the Beast commercials? I love that movie but haven’t thought about it in years! Lately, I can’t get away from it – I think they’re moving it to Blue-ray or something – some kind of re-release?

Q: What’s your favorite bread dipping sauce? I’m seriously going to figure out how to make that basil dip – AMAZING!

Heated walkways?! That's such a good idea. BTW, where do you hold your camera while you're skiing or are you using your phone? I messed mine up the last time I went.

Looks like you are having a great time! The mountains are getting pounded with snow right now and us in Denver are dry as a bone :( Enjoy your stay :)

Lee: yes - they have been AWESOME! I carry my camera, video camera and cell phone in my coat. It's SUPER padded so the front pockets work great (point and shoot - no SLR).

Decoratedandexhausted: We are - thanks!! haha I hear you - it's snowed ever day!

Beth: It IS - i'm really enjoying this resort - very cute! Thanks so much.

This makes me want to go skiing so badly!! We're not going this year for the first time in YEARS, and it makes me really sad. Enjoy the rest of your time there!!

The resort looks super nice and swanky! I'm glad you're having a wonderful time!

(I haven't seen any "Beauty & The Beast" ads lately. They must have released it from the Disney "vault" for Christmas.)

Looks like you are having an amazing time! I didn't realize you were in Beaver Creek! My family has a house right outside of Beaver Creek in Edwards, but we ski BC, Bachelor Gulch, Arrowhead and I love McCoy's! ..they are all out there right now, actually..I couldn't make it this year :( Beaver Creek is seriously my favorite place, been going since I was 2! Have an amazing time!
